HEADING WEST

Today I am in Hyder, Alaska. I came up here from Smythers, BC. Before
that I was in Kootnay National Park, Alberta. Before that in Cutbank, Montana,
before that in Minot, ND, before that in Two trout (?), Michigan. Between
Michigan and ND, I stopped in Duluth at the Rider's Warehouse. Before
Mich.

Anyway....everything is going really well. After hitting western Montana
the riding and scenery got really good. It is very beautiful. You want to
stop every 10 minutes and take a picture.

I've been thinking of you. I've seen a whole bunch of RTs in BC and Alberta all going in the other direction (southeast). I am beginning to worry a Little; all the bikes I see are going in the other direction.

Today it is raining very hard so I am only putting in a half day of
riding.
I am in a one room school house in Hyder using their computer. I took a
detour of the Cassias Highway (37) because there is a place in Hyder where
you can watch the bears feed on salmon. Unfortunately, it is rainomg so
hard
that the waters a murky and the bears are not out fishing. They are a
little
smarter than I am. I've been cold and wet all day.
I wish I had a windshield and Gore-tex boots. I am really getting
hammered by the wind and rain. My feet have been getting wet. I use plastic bags in my boots for water proofing. Also, the bag that I had all my clothing in is not waterproof and everything got wet. The roadcrafter is watertight,
however the wind seems to cut right through. I am going to try wearing my
gore-tex shell underneath and see if that blocks some of the wind. The
Jesse Bags seem to be watertight, except for this norning when I drove away from a
fuel stop with the clutch side bag completely open and did not notice it
until I stopped to pee an hour and a half later. Luckly, I had my rain
jacket on top.

Tomorrow I am off to Whitehorse in the Yukon.
