½” aluminum brackets were mill to fit the contour of the standard rear seat pan. The brackets hold a welded aluminum
pan with
¼”-20 cap screws. The pan is lined with 1/8” gas resistant rubber. A summit fuel cell fits snuggly into the
rubber lined pan
walls. The cell is strapped down to the pan with marine battery hold down straps. The pan is adjustable by means of a gang
of drilled holes in the pan and tapped threads in the bracket.

FUEL CELL ON SEAT PAN

Here are some pictures of the fuel cell I made for my R1100RT. The cell holds about 4 gallons, which makes the total 11 gallons.
I should get more than 350 miles from the combination. The cell took 3 months to collect the parts and construct. I wanted
to make the system completely removable. The entire setup comes off in about 30 seconds. Only permanent part is the TEE hose That is
hooked up into the return line.

The cell has a main cut off valve placed prominently on the left side for easy access. When the cell pump is off this valve
is shut to prevent fuel coming from the main pump from entering the cell. 3/8” hose is run through out and feed to a
quick
disconnect placed under the seat.
FUEL LINE AND VALVE

The fuel pump and fuel filter are housed with in the bracket assembly. The pump is operated with a water resistant rocker
switch. If you look closely you can also see the waterproof fuse holder mounted to the bracket near the switch. Electrical
wiring is run from the accessory outlet on the side of the bike. I used SAE plugs to took-up both the power and grounding
lines.

FUEL PUMP AND QUICK DISCONNECT

Please be warned: these are not directions to make a fuel cell. This page only documents a design that I have made for my
own use. The system is not tested and I make no guarantee to its safety. Do not try this at home.

FUEL CELL SETUP ON MY R100GSPD. ALL TOLLED I WAS CARRYING 14 GALS OF GAS. THAT GAVE ME A400 MILE RANGE. CELL PAN IS BOLTED TO EXISTING REAR BRACKET. I SWAP THE CELL FROM MY R1100RT BUT REMOVED THE FUEL PUMP,MAKING THE SYSTEM GRAVITY FEED.
