I am stuck in Cuzco with a burned out clutch and some cylinder head
problems. Waiting to ge some parts shipped in from Ride West in Seattle.
Very complicated and expensive process. My bike is in three pieces, in a
local mechanic's shop. Very scary sight.
I need a left and right timing chain for a '95 R1100GS. Does anyone in the
NYC are have one? Could you check for me? Ride West tells me that it is on
back order from GERMANY!!!!
OK, I think its time for me to take up some meditation. You may be right, I
may not really need a new timing chain. this guy seems like a good mechanic
but he is the only game in town. His experience with working on BMW motos
is limited. He told me that after about 100,000 km (or 66,000 miles) the
chain tends to get loose and needs to be changed. He showed me the chain,
but I am not sure what it is suppode to look like. What does "loose" look
like and what does "tight" look like? I have no idea. I need to e-mail some
BMW mechanics back home to get their opinion. Do you have the e-mail for
your mechanic? Does he mind if I e-mail him?
Thanks for all you efforts. Also, please thank Peter for me. I will tell
Ride West to go ahead with their order from Germany.
As soon as I can find a computer with Windows XP, I will send you some scary
pictures of the bike in its current state.
